INDEPENDENCE - The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office has issued a press release identifying the victim of a homicide discovered there as Cindy “Pinky” Easom, 33, of Miami, Oklahoma.

Easom's body was located on Thursday, Dec. 7, by hunters who found the victim floating in water approximately a quarter mile south of a boat ramp at the Card Creek camping area on Elk City Lake near Independence in Montgomery County.

According to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, deputies from the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and paramedics from Independence Fire and EMS boarded the hunter's boat and were taken to the location where the victim was last seen.

Paramedics recovered Easom's body and transported the victim to Labette Health Hospital in Independence where she was pronounced dead.

In an effort to identify the female, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and Kansas Bureau of Investigation released a flier containing information and photos of Easom showing her tattoos and face and asking for help identifying the female. The KBI flier also requested information about the identity of the owner of a 1998 White Dodge Durango.

Easom was later identified, and the Sheriff issued a second press release announcing her identity on Dec. 8.

Investigators from Montgomery County Sheriff's Office and Kansas Bureau of Investigations are currently investigating the incident as a homicide, according to the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office.

Over the 24 hours before the Sheriff's Office had identification of Easom, the office received many calls with information of the victim's identity and Sheriff Robert Dierks thanked the public for their tips and information.

"It is a tremendous help when the community comes forward with information," Dierks said.

Dierks asked for patience while the investigation is continuing, and asks the family be given privacy as they mourn the loss of a loved one.

Anyone with information that could help investigators can call Montgomery County Sheriff's Office at 620-330-1000.
