DRIVE 4 LESS AUTO SALES has cars for sale in Baxter Springs right on the main drag. Teresa Patterson is the owner and sales woman in charge. She started the business four years ago with kin, but went forward alone with Gods help after they backed out. Teresa is a former employee with Bagcraft. She has a full-time job in Webb City presently, and manages the car lot. You need a car then give Drive 4 Less a shot. On Dec. 20 a new security light was installed on the roof of the sales building, exclusively reported here.
The Baxter Springs Post Office has a brand new employee. Destine is a bright and cheerful young lady and very helpful. She worked as a post office employee for three years before transferring to Baxter a month ago. Welcome Destine, you're a kind addition to an already friendly staff. When she retires in 30 or so years rest assured, we will be there for her party and gold watch presentation.
I saw a mail carrier in short britches in Galena a bit ago, that all changed Christmas weekend with our first snow of the winter season making all the Holiday lights so more beautiful. Reworking a Mark Twain quote, 'if you don't like the weather in Baxter Springs then wait a few minutes,' - Duane H.H.Lyon. One philosopher said everybody likes to complain about the weather but nobody ever does anything about it. I always chuckle when I hear forecasters telling the weather 30 days out. Only God can look that far ahead. Makes me wanna eat some homemade snow cream from back in the day. Handcranked non electric, makes it taste better. I'm having to move back from the fireplace as I write.
Recently I was in North Dakota and it was 40 below zero and snowing with high wind gust, it's called white out blizzard time. Thats why they keep gates on the interstate, so let's be brave here in Baxter during this present cold spell.
At 1 p.m. on Jan. 20, the Tri-State Facts & Stories Research Group will meet at the Baxter Springs Museum, Mary Billington Director. Need info: 620-856-2385. Bring your story and thinking cap. I do believe the art of thinking is the greatest lost skill in the world today, or at least the 70 countries I have been in. Think about it.

Five nights a week Word In Action delivers around 70 go plates to those in need around the community. Some folk come and pick up there take home plate. Every Wednesday night all are welcome to a sermon and a meal. I attended one midweek service and dined on the Word and lasagna. Pastor Steve is a compelling speaker. Do you wanna help or do you need help? Call 620-202-1908 to reach Word In Action.
I also attended the annual Christmas dinner and 122 hungry people including me showed up for the community meal. Me and the turkey were stuffed. After the meal the Christmas message was shared and then everyone received a Christmas present. Friends these folk are doing God's work all for the glory of God. Please pray for our ministerial alliance and Word In Action ministries.
Jesse recently visited First Assembly Of God, Baxter, where the Women of the Word, W.O.W. had an ornament exchange party for Christmas. Lead Pastors: Daniel and Tiffany Berryhill. 602-304-1221 for info. Pastor Daniel is a exciting speaker grounded in the word and I enjoyed my visit.
I recently attended service at Baxter Chapel with Jesse. Pastors are Bill and Rhonda Waggoner. This particular Sunday morning sister Darla Oakes served as the song leader. I've had the privilege of hearing both Pastors speak and they always bring a sure and timely message. Brother Bill also serves as the Superintendent and a instructor at Apostolic Faith Bible College, Baxter Springs. Sister Rhonda serves as a instructor also at AFBC. Keep all the students and the school in your prayers.
We will have our fireside chat again in about a week, warm regards. Your happy hometown media representative. Nehemiah 8:10.
