Vernon Dee Clark, 85 of Miami, Oklahoma passed from this life on Thursday April 25, 2019 at the Seneca House, Seneca, Missouri.

Vernon was born September 18, 1933 in Chetopa, Kansas to the union of Oliver and Josephine (Crain) Clark. He was united in marriage to Dolores Fay (Sexton) Clark on May 18, 1953 in Chetopa, Kansas.

Vernon graduated from Chetopa High School in 1951 and began working at Eagle Picher right out of high school, then at B.F. Goodrich on March 20, 1957, where he continued until they closed the plant March 1, 1986. He then worked at NEO A&M College for approximately 10 years in the maintenance department, while also repairing motors as a side business.

Vernon’s passion was fishing. He made his own fishing jigs for crappie fishing, which he also gifted to many people. For many years he spent his free time at his Grand Lake property in Bernice, hosting visiting relatives with guided fishing trips and fish fries. In a small backyard garden, he was able to coax bushels of tomatoes from a few plants. Vernon dabbled in pecan production, tending his trees, then gathering and shelling the nuts to share with family and friends. He updated the family kitchen several times over the years, building the cabinets himself. He loved OU football, his bowling league and coaching Little League Baseball in Miami for several years in the 1960’s. Vernon was a member of New Hope Christian Church where he also served as a deacon.

Vernon was preceded in death by his wife Dolores Clark, his parents, and siblings. He is survived by four daughters; seven grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren.

Memorial graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, May 10, 2019 at Oak Hill Cemetery, Chetopa, Kansas. Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt’s Baxter Chapel. Online condolences may be expressed at
