It's 2020, wishing you and yours health and prosperity in the new year and decade. Before you head to Baxter's Springs new yoga studio at 2407 Military Avenue, formerly Envy Salon and Fitness, now Envy Fitness and Yogi Studio I recommend a new year celebration visit to Weston's Cafe in Baxter Springs.

I say they have the best plate lunch and cake in Cherokee County. First, great location at 1737 Military Avenue and they have a parking lot you can land a airplane on.

It's a great place to bring the family. Jan, a kind soul was my waitress on a recent visit. Here are the specials on that delicious day . Goulash or pork tender, pick from potatoes-gravy-tossed salad, french fries-cole slaw, cabbage-apple sauce, mixed vegetables-pea salad. Please enjoy coffee or tea and desert with the special.

The tasty cakes available that sweet day were chocolate, lemon, peach or black cherry. Also available were a range of yummy pies. All this for $7.50. You can order a ham and cheese sandwich with one side for $5.50. Are you cold, heat up with chili or vegetable soup.

I am a connoisseur of biscuits and gravy having been reared in the hilltops of Kentucky. Thus I formally pronounce Weston's Cafe as having the best all around biscuits and gravy in the continental United States and maybe the world, or at least the 70 countries I've been in.

I recently sat in for two biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were so fluffy I thought they may float off my plate. The creamy milk gravy was salted and peppered to perfection. I was glad that I didn't order the three biscuits serving as I was bloated upon devouring the double portion, bloated in a good way! These nice hometown folks put on a spread.

Around Baxter Town, Friday, Aug. 10, 2001. "Pastoral candidate to minister at local church." Also August 2001, Judy Wade, Baxter Springs, after purchasing only one hundred tickets is now the proud owner of this year's Cowtown 65 Mustang GT.

The proud grandmother of Malachi Abbott just wanted to help her grandson win the Tiny Tots contest, she said. "I was in complete shock when I heard my name called," said Wade. "I haven't even had a chance to drive it yet, we just bought tags for the car Wednesday."

Wade and her husband Don, chose to keep the car instead of the $10,000 Grand prize...Time and Temperature 856-1963.
