On Jan. 4, the Baxter Springs Police Department took a report  from management of The Storage Shed on Military Ave. of several storage units having been broken into.

“They’ve had several break-ins over the past month or so,” said BSPD Chief Russ Harper.

The Jan. 4 report included information about a vehicle, however, and a possible suspect.

The responding officer subsequently located the suspect vehicle as it left an address in Baxter Springs and conducted a traffic stop. The officer was able to identify the same suspect shown in videos from The Storage Shed, according to information from the BSPD.

After questioning the suspect, Anthony Paxson, 35, of Baxter Springs, and further investigation which led to the discovery of items reported stolen from the storage units as well as controlled substances and paraphernalia, Paxson was arrested on burglary and drug possession charges and taken to the Cherokee County Jail.

Baxter Springs police are continuing to investigate other suspects in connection with the storage unit burglaries who had not yet been arrested as of Monday. Anyone with information about the burglaries or other crimes can contact the police department at 620-856-2112.
