COLUMBUS — Columbus School District has canceled school for Thursday and Friday to protect the students from potentially getting the flu.
The school district recently reported that Park Elementary paraprofessional Kayauna Zabel died on Sunday. According to a more district’s recent Facebook post from the district, Zabel had a “confirmed diagnosis” of influenza type b.
The district decided to close the schools after learning that Zabel’s brother is in intensive care for similar symptoms. According to the district’s post, a disease specialist is further investigating any underlying causes for their illnesses.
“Being that this can take 48 hours to get results back, we will be closing school for Thursday and Friday to ensure that we are taking the proper steps to keep our students safe and protected,” the district said on the post.
