United States Sen. Jerry Moran (R-Hays) will be in Columbus as part of his state-wide listening tour today. Moran will be at the Columbus Community Building for the town hall-style meeting from 1 to 2 p.m.

Moran Press Secretary Lindsey Trent said the listening tours started when Moran was the state Representative from the Big First district in western Kansas.

“His listening tour as Senator is a continuation of that,” Trent said, adding this was No. 73 on his 105 county tour.

“It’s important to him to listen to folks in Kansas and hear what’s going on in their minds,” she said.

Trent said Moran would make brief remarks at the beginning of the meeting and then spend most of the event listening to concerns from the audience.

Moran is on several committees which deal with issues important to Kansans, including the Banking, Veteran’s Affairs, Homeland Security and Government Affairs Committee, the Small Business Committee and the Special Committee on Aging.

Moran, who is serving his first term in the Senate was in the House for 14 years and the Kansas State Senate for eight.
