The Columbus Fire Department started the cold Saturday morning off joining the city hall employees participating in the annual Adopt an Angel program.
The long running program allows community residents to “adopt” children for the purpose of being “Santa” to those youngsters who might not have a good Christmas.
The fire fighters deliver the packages, with Santa and city workers in the big fire trucks.
Each year the big red trucks travel through the community with Santa atop them as the good hearted city employees and fire fighters donate their time to deliver the presents to the children’s homes.
This year 42 deliveries were made on Saturday.
“That’s 42 small children we helped this year,” said Lead Driver Steve Burton. “To see the smile on their faces when the Big Red Fire Truck pulled up with lights and sirens was one of the greatest feelings you could ask.
“This is an awesome program, however it wouldn’t be possible if it weren’t for the anonymous citizens donating gifts and such, they are the true heroes in this,” said Burton.
