A fire just past Northeast 20th and Coalfield broke out Tuesday.

Columbus Fire Department responded with two trucks and four men. Nate Long was the lead driver for the group.

Baxter Springs also responded to the fire.

The fire is believed to have started in the waterway and stayed in the waterway as well as burning part of a bean field.

There are no known causes for the fire currently.

CFD was on scene at 1:46 p.m. and cleared the area by 2:16 p.m.

No one was injured in the fire.

The CFD has had a total of 251 runs this year and between July 14 and July 20 had 14 runs.

Cherokee County adopted a burn ban Monday until further notice because of the extremely dry conditions in the county which bans all outdoor burning.

Fines for violating the ban include for first offense, a $500 fine and/or 30 days in the Cherokee County Jail. Second offense fines are $1,500 and/or six months in the Cherokee County Jail.
