Students from Columbus High School attended the Journalism Regional Contest held February 19, at Pittsburg State University. Several of the winners advanced to the state contest with their entries.

Carry-in contests included advertising, feature photography, headline writing, info-graphics, newspaper design, sports photography, theme and graphics and yearbook layout.

Those who competed in carry-in contests were able to work on their entries for a few weeks before regionals.

Contests held on the PSU campus were yearbook copy writing, newspaper sports writing, cutline writing, editing, news writing, feature writing, editorial writing, editorial cartoon, and yearbook sports writing.

There were ten schools competing on the 3A/4A level at PSU.

Senior, Garrett Newman placed second in Infographics. Junior, Jeanetta Orler won third place in newspaper design. Junior, Kelsey Williams took first honorable mention in newspaper design, and third place in editorial cartoon.

Senior, Malarie Mosler won second place in sports photography. Senior, Lauren Chesner got honorable mention in sports photography. Chesner and senior, Anna Zwahlen won first place in theme development. Zwahlen also placed third in layout/DPS, and got honorable mention in yearbook copy writing.

Freshman, Tuesday Kellogg took honorable mention in editorial cartoon. Junior, James Bidwell won second place in news sports writing, and also got first honorable mention in advertising.

Junior Justin Jones won second place in news writing. Sophomore, Kayla Justice won second place in editorial writing. Senior, Stephanie Henningsen received honorable mention in cutline writing.

Everyone who placed or received an honorable mention at regionals will compete at the Journalism State Contest May 2, at the University of Kansas, Lawrence.
