The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) expects to begin a culvert replacement project on U.S. 69 at the south edge of Columbus on Tuesday, Jan. 20. The culvert replacement is part of a larger project to reconstruct and widen U.S. 69 from the north side of BNSF railroad crossing north to Maple Street.

KDOT awarded the construction contract to Beachner Construction Company, Inc., of St. Paul. Two-way traffic will be maintained through the work zone. The culvert replacement is expected to be complete in approximately five weeks. The U.S. 69 roadway reconstruction work in Columbus will begin in March, weather permitting. The construction cost for the entire project is $2 million.
