SCAMMON — According to a release from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office around 9 a.m. Tuesday CKSO and the Southeast Kansas Drug Enforcement Task Force executed a narcotics related search warrant at 703 East Naught Street in Scammon.
Investigators seized suspected controlled substances and arrested Michael E. Best.
Best is currently being held in the Cherokee County Jail on $30,000 bond. He is facing charges of distributing controlled substances within 1,000 feet of a school, using a communications device to violate the controlled substance act, no drug tax stamp, and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia. He was formally charged Wednesday in Cherokee County District Court.
Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves was contacted, but said he was unable to comment further, citing an ongoing investigation.
More arrests are anticipated.
