Three men have been arrested in unrelated burglary cases in the last week, all in northern Cherokee County.
Stephen McCracken, 62, Weir, was arrested by the Cherokee County Sheriff‘s Department on charges of felony burglary, felony theft, four counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and transporting an open container. The gun charges stem from McCracken‘s outstanding felony warrant for violating his parole.
According to Cherokee County Sheriff David Groves, McCracken allegedly stole an 1987 Ford F150 pickup truck, guns, money and other items from a residence near Weir. Groves said an alert was put out on the missing truck and later in the day on Tuesday the Galena Police Department notified CKSO they had spotted the vehicle.
When deputies pulled McCracken over they found the open container of alcohol. He was taken into custody and is being held in the Cherokee County Jail without bond.
In an unrelated case, Micky Bunce, 43, Pittsburg, was arrested on charges of burglary, theft, criminal damage to property and criminal trespass also in the the northeast part of the county.
Groves said the homeowner arrived to find Bunce on the property and immediately called CKSO.
According to Groves, deputies were able to respond before Bunce left the property.
“We were able to respond pretty quickly and during the course of the interview determined he was there to commit a burglary,” Groves said.
Groves said Bunce allegedly had tools and other items piled by a door but had not been on the property long enough to get away with them.
Bunce remains in the Cherokee County Jail on $10,500 bond.
