Zelma Kelley, 95 of Columbus, passed away Thursday, November 4, 2010 at Freeman Health System West in Joplin, Mo. following a brief illness.
Zelma was born September 6, 1915, in Neutral, Kan., the first child of Don and Goldie (Schultz) Augustus.
She attended rural school and graduated from Riverton High School in 1934. She received a Normal Teaching Certificate and taught in the Bush Creek School for a year.
She married Roy Kelley June 27, 1936 and in 1938, the couple purchased a farm northwest of Columbus where they resided for 70 years. Roy passed away December 4, 1989. Zelma has resided at Autumn Place in Columbus for the past two years.
She was a member of the Sherwin Christian Church and previously has been a member of the Center Star Homemakers Club, Better Homes Extension Unit and a quilting club. Zelma was an avid gardener, enjoyed making quilts and being with family.
Survivors include two sons, Keith Kelley and wife Bernadine of Baxter Springs and Kenneth Kelley and wife Helen of rural Columbus; three granddaughters, Gae Phillips and husband Aaron of Baxter Springs, Joy Puckett and husband Doug of Baxter Springs, Sara Stanley and husband Richie of rural Columbus; one grandson, Jason Kelley and wife Melissa of Conway, Ark.; four great-grandchildren, Trent and Macey Puckett of Baxter Springs, Mackenzie Kelley of Conway, Ark. and Blake Stanley of Columbus; a sister, Jean VanBeber of Columbus; a niece and two nephews.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, November 6, 2010 in the Murdock Chapel with Rev. Dennis Johnson officiating.
Interment will follow in Edgmand Cemetery.
