Robert W. Barker, 82 passed away peacefully Friday, November 5 at his home in Columbus, Kan. 

He was born November 15, 1927 in Nora Springs, Iowa, the son of Benjamin and Bernice (Furrow) Barker. 

Robert graduated high school in Wichita, Kan.. He moved from Wichita to Columbus in 1989. 

In April of 1946 he enlisted in the U.S. Naval Personnel Separation Center.  He spent two years in the Navy.

Robert was an Industrial Engineer, where he was president of Thermo Inc. where he successfully owned and operated his business for 40 plus years.

On  August 20, 1946 Robert married Dorothy L. (Swartzlander) in Wichita. She preceded him in death on September 25, 2010.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Dorothy; a daughter, Candace Susan Ewing, a great-grandchild Caitlyn Rose O’Melia, and one brother, Edwin Barker.

Survivors include two daughters, Jill, and husband Richard Longstaff, of Wichita, Kan., and Windy Elizabeth Barker of Pittsburg, Kan.; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchildren;  two sisters, Dorris Roberts of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Connie Rogers of Mesa Ariz.

A Memorial graveside service for family and friends will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at Friendship Cemetery with Pastor Warren Stanton officiating.
