Billy Joe “Bill” Parrish, age 72 of Columbus, Ks passed from this life Wednesday, July 13, 2011 at his home with his family surrounding him.

Bill was born May 12, 1939 in West Mineral, Kansas to the union of Clyde U. and Rose (Gates) Parrish. Bill was united in marriage to Stella Delores (Huntsinger) in 1957. She preceded him in death in 2004. In 1957 Bill enlisted with the United States Marine Core. He served his Country very proudly.

Bill was then united in marriage to Hilda Vale (Walker) Parrish, October 15, 2004 in Columbus, Ks.  Bill worked in construction most of his life and was considered to be a very “Handy Man”.  Bill was a member of the Sherman Baptist Church. He was a very devoted man to his church. Whenever the church needed help that’s where you would find Bill. He was a member of the American Legion Post #3 of Columbus, Ks. Some people would know Bill from the fruits and vegetables that he would sell at his produce stand in Columbus.

Bill is survived by his wife Hilda of the home; four sons Billy Wayne Parrish and wife Kathy of Crestline, Ks, James Clyde Parrish and wife Claudia Rose of Pahrumph, NV, Terry Lee Parrish and wife Mary Joy of Tulsa, Ok, Jim Thomas and wife  Chris of Columbus, Ks; one daughter Dayna Vale Miller and husband Don of Columbus, KS; one brother Jim Parrish and wife Yvonne of Bentonville, AR; two sisters Hazel Virginia Cresson and husband Alex of Roseland, Ks, and Florence Margaret Gustin of Corona, Ks; along with several grandchildren and many great grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.  He is preceded in death by his parents and first wife, one son Jacky Lee Parrish; one daughter Lori Patricia Durbin; two brothers Bud Parrish, and Bobby Lee Parrish; one sister Mary Lee Roark.

Funeral service will be held 7:30 p.m., Friday, July 15, 2011 at Derfelt Funeral Home of Columbus. Pastor Jim Thomas will officiate. Burial will be at a later date. Family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 pm until service time. Memorial donations may be made to the Sherman Baptist Church in care of the Funeral home.
