Phyllis A. Henderson, 83 of Cherokee died at 11:45 p.m. Sunday April 26, 2009 at the Mount Carmel Regional Medical Center in Pittsburg.
She was born May 26, 1925 in Cherokee, the daughter of William and Leona (Birdsell) Barnard.
Phyllis was a lifetime resident of the Cherokee area, she was a graduate of Crawford County High School.
She married Danzil Henderson in July of 1952 in Bentonville, Ark., he preceded her in death on June 22, 1958.
Phyllis was an inspector for Kansas Army Ammunition Plant in Parsons for 27 years retiring in 1989.
She was a member of the Cherokee United Methodist Church, the Kent Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #117 in Weir and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
Survivors include a daughter, Clarice Pistole and husband Mike of Cherokee; a son, David Henderson and wife Vicky of Arcadia; a brother George W. Barnard of Spring Hill, Fla.; four granddaughters, Stacy Shireman, Andrea Ziegler, Carie M. Gardner, Abby Dawn Henderson; six great-grandchildren, Laney and Gabe Shireman, Anistyn and Adleigh Ziegler, Beau and Eli Thomas Gardner.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 1 at the Bath-Naylor Funeral Home in Pittsburg with Associate Pastor Kyle Rogers officiating.
Burial will follow in the Cherokee City Cemetery. The Kent Chapter #117 Order of the Eastern Star will conduct rites on Thursday, April 30 at 7 p.m. at the funeral home where the family will receive friends following until 8 p.m.
