Twelve Columbus High School athletes were selected for all SEK conference honors this past week.

The Titan football team had seven of them, with three on the first team. Soccer followed with four and volleyball had one.

“This was a very good year for our kids,” said Head Football Coach Dan Grundy. “While we have had more all conference players in past years, our kids were very disciplined and worked hard.”

Named to the football all conference 1st team were Seniors Brandon Alberty and Chase Leonard. Also on the first team was Junior Tyler Elmore.

On the football all conference 2nd team were Senior Taylor Spear and Sophomore Gavin Houser. Receiving football honorable mention were Juniors Trevor McLaughlin and Dustin Morris.

“Several of the boys will have a chance to play more football in college,” Grundy said. “Being an all conference selection will help but the primary deciding factor will be their play on the field.”

Columbus volleyball was privileged to announce Senior Jessica Anderson was selected to the all conference 2nd team.

“She played through a lot of foot injuries,” said Head Volleyball Coach Paul Hamilton. “We were fortunate to have her.”

Anderson is considering possibly continuing volleyball in college. There are no announcements regarding that at present.

Rounding out the Columbus athletes were four soccer all conference selections. Senior Zach Foster was a unanimous 1st team selection. Senior Joe Tillman, Junior Seth Humble and Sophomore Colten Stanley, all made the 2nd team.

“This was Colton’s first year to ever play,” said Head Soccer Coach Aaron Ryder. “His footwork was exceptional.”

“Zach (Foster) is interested in college soccer,” Ryder said, “but he may stick with academics at Labette Community College.
