Struggling through a poor shooting night the Lady Titans fell to Independence 50-29 Friday night in the Columbus gymnasium.
Trailing 13-7 at the end of the first quarter, the Lady Titans went into a real scoring slump in the second half as they scored only four points.
During that same quarter Indy had their biggest scoring effort of the night with 17 points.
By halftime the Lady Titans trailed 30-11.
“We didn’t shoot very well, and they (Indepencence) is a very good shooting team,” said Lady Titan head coach Kenny Oberman. “We really never got much in the flow.”
Indy hit 16-18 from the line while the Lady Titans were only 4-14 from the charity stripe.
“A physical game is never in our favor,” said Oberman. “Our turnovers were high early, and our free throw shooting was poor.”
In the second half the Lady Titans stayed with Indy both teams scoring seven points in the third quarter and Indy scoring 13 in the final period to the Lady Titans 11.
Leading the Titan scoring Audra Stover had seven points with Danille Crain and Bailie Hatfield each adding six.
Jessica Anderson and Natalie Koons each scored four off the bench in the seocnd half.
Paige Fletcher added two points.
The Lady Titans will open the Lancer Classic against Oswego at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Southeast gym at Cherokee.
